I believe the answer is: b.he disapproves of them.

Steinbecks believed that many big companies often overlooked the social repercussion that they made from their actions.  He believe that many of these companies owners were motivated by greed in accumulating their wealth, which often sacrifice the wellbeings of their workers in order to obtain profit.
