A simile compares things using "like" or "as". A metaphor doesn't use those words. Instead, it mostly uses is. For example,

Simile: This light is as bright as the sun. Or,
The football player falls to the ground like a leaf.

Metaphor: Your house is a castle. Or,
The cat is a monster.
