The nutrient added to municipal water supplies to promote healthy formation of teeth is Fluoride. Flouride is vital to the formation of healthy teeth, because when the teeth are growing, it mixes with the tooth enamel (hard coating of the teeth). That prevents tooth decay or cavities. It can also help even after the teeth have already been formed, it also works with saliva to protect tooth enamel from plaque and sugars.
