you would first start by eliminating one of the variables in order to find the other one.
I chose to eliminate Y, so i multiplies the second equation by -2, in order to cancel Y out.
you would then solve for X, the same you would a one step equation. X =4
You then take one of the original equations, plug X in, and solve for y. Y=5
