According to the Atkinson-Shiffrin memory processing model, we record information ad memorize things in the following three steps:

1. Sensory register-Sensory inputs are represented in our memory

2. Short-term memory (STM)- A temporary "storage unit" of information that we can hold for 15-20 seconds, unless it is rehearsed and encoded.

3. Long
-term memory(LTM)- Through rehearsing and encoding, information in our STM enters our LTM.
