First, you have to find how many times 8 goes into 38. It goes into 38 4 times with 4 left over. That means it is 4 4/8. 
4 4/8 is also equal to 4 1/2. Hope this helps!
You have to divide using long division. the whole number portion will be the number of times the denominator of the original fraction divides evenly into the numerator of the original fraction, and the fraction portion of the mixed number will be the remainder of the original fraction. 4  6/8
