First put it in standard form:
x^2 −14x -15 =0
a =1 b =-14 c=-15
Then use the quadratic formula:
x = [-b +-sq root (b^2 - 4ac)] / 2a
x = [--14 +- sq root (14^2 -4*1*-15] / 2*1
x = [14 +-sq root (196 +60)] / 2
x = [14 +- 16] / 2
x1 = 15
x2 = -1
