Why did it talk colonists more time to prepare food than it does for people today?

Because, back then there were none of what we use today to make food. Ex:Stove,Oven,Grill,Refrigerator. They only had what they had to make with their bare hands.

Because they didn’t have the right technology, or none at all! So they didn’t have nothing to heat up quickly
