Angle 1 and angle 2 are corresponding angles. Notice how they are in the upper right hand corner of each 4-corner angle configuration. In other words, they are both above their respective parallel line and on the right side of the transversal. So that's why they correspond to one another.

Because the horizontal lines are parallel, this means the corresponding angles are congruent. So angle 1 is congruent to angle 2
