Interestingly, the increase in the trait of extroversion in the United States and the Netherlands has been accompanied by an increase in self-reported signs of narcissism. It is yet undetermined whether there is a relationship of correlation or causation or if it is coincidental. Some speculate that the rise of social media has increased the perception of narcissistic behavior, without the actual presence of the personality disorder.
