Selective permeability means
that only certain sizes of objects can get through. Sieve or colander allows
the passage of objects that are smaller than the mesh, while it selects against
larger objects. The selective permeability of a membrane is like to some
membranes which only allow glucose to pass through while sucrose which is
larger is prohibited.
