The historical Vedic religion, in which modern Hinduism is based, emerged in the second millennium BCE. There is not one particular founder, but rather the religion evolved when the Aryans merged with the people of the Indus Valley. The Vedic religion was pantheistic, meaning that its followers believed in may gods.
