A ziggurat is a type of construction developed in Ancient Mesopotamia. These were usually built by the Sumerians, Akkadians, Elamites, Eblaites and Babylonians. Ziggurats consisted of raised platforms with successively receding stories. These were usually found with other religious buildings nearby. Some of the most famous ziggurats are the Great Ziggurat of Ur and the Ziggurat of Aqar.
