5x + 2y = 12
2y = -5x + 12
y = -5/2x + 6....slope here is -5/2. A parallel line will have the same slope.

y = mx + b
slope(m) = -5/2
(-2,4)....x = -2 and y = 4
now we sub into our formula and solve for b, the y int
4 = -5/2(-2) + b
4 = 5 + b
4 - 5 = b
-1 = b

so ur parallel equation is : y = -5/2x - 1
