Disinfection means inactivating all pathogenic microbes but not necessarily all microorganisms. It can be done thru cleaning and rinsing.  In the case of contact lens, they can be disinfected using only a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution – and not higher concentration for safety. With the several commercial disinfecting solutions for contact lenses evaluated in May 1983 – only 3% hydrogen peroxide has a fast disinfection rate of 3-4 hours and has met the safety factor requirement as suggested by FDA.
