Solve within the parentheses first.  5 + 4 is 9.  Now subtract that by to get 7.  Now you multiply 7 by -2.  First multiply 7 and 2 to get 14.  Since it is a negative number multiplying by a positive number change 14 into a negative number.  The answer is -14.
