Islamic painters created small-scale paintings called miniatures that were collected by the wealthy and placed in albums.
Miniatures were small illustration and were used as frontispiece or an illustration for a text in order to decorate an ancient or medieval illuminated manuscript. The oldest preserved miniature paintings were made in around the year 1000.
