To counter the Native American perspective toward landownership,
the Dawes Act ran.
To assimilate Native Americans into national life, the following
measures were taken:

open use of lands – (Native American view)
The authorization of the
President of the US to divide lands into allotments for individual Indians
by surveying was made possible by the Dawes Act.
