I x + 2 I -8 = 6
I x + 2 I = 6 + 8
I x + 2 I = 14
From the definition of absolute value:
You need to keep in mind that |x| = |-x|, so
you need to solve: (x + 2) = 14 and -(x + 2) = 14
x + 2 = 14
---- x = 12
-x -2 = 14
---- x = -16
