Well, an increased risk would be shallow water. Ideally, you want to dive into water that's at least 5 feet deep so the risk of hitting your head isn't as great. Another could also be instead of diving straight down, dive at an angle so again, the risk of hitting your head and compressing your spine isn't as great.
