It's really bad for Nixon.
The watergate scandal exposed that Nixon knew the break in that Happened at Democratic National Committee headquarters but he did nothing to prevent it.
This heavily damaged people's trust in him, because all his actions indicate that he had something to hide or even orchestrated the whole thing.
