The other dude is simply wrong. ‘Inform’ is not the word you should be looking at. ‘Formal‘ is. The opposite of formal? The answer is informal of course. Looking at it this way, this isn’t supposed to be something to take seriously. Therefore, I’d like to say that an informal essay attempts to entertain.
