Americans were searching for natural gold and new resources. Some believed the Indians were keeping these resources for themselves. Many Indians were evicted during this time.

Americans seized many acres of Native American land in order to make room for settlers but there were other events in history where they seized Native American land so idk if this is the event your lesson is talking about.
