The answer is frequent volcanic eruptions. Some volcanoes erupt all the time (and some like Kilauea never stop). Then again, some volcanoes are latent for drawn out stretches of time between ejections. The biggest ejections originate from volcanoes called rhyolite calderas, and these colossal emissions may happen at interims of 10,000 to 30,000 years.
