Let me explain how it works though.
When you are looking at negatives and positives, as well as adding and subtracting, you should just look at subtraction as adding a negative number.
So we have -5 + -12. This would be -17.
If you see a subtraction sign, you can change it to plus a negative number and that will always help.
Answer: -17
