The time taken for the car to drive directly north is 8.52 seconds.

Time of motion of the car

v = u + at

At 137.7° angle

v = u + a cosθ(t)

v = 17.9 + 2.88cos(137.7)t

v = 17.9 - 2.1t

when the car is directly north, v = 0

0 =  17.9 - 2.1t

2.1t = 17.9

t = 17.9/2.1

t = 8.52 seconds

Thus, the time taken for the car to drive directly north is 8.52 seconds.
