lets say the first is x and the second is y then we can say

x+y=55 ......1

x-y= -1 .......2

by adding 1 with 2 then

x+y+x-y=55+(-1)

==> 2x= 55-1=54

==> x= 54/2=28

if we put x=28 in the 2nd equation then

28-y= -1

==> y=29
