Using the equation form y = MX + b where a is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept.

The line that is parallel this the line with equation 5x + y = 11 will have the SAME SLOPE as this line BUT the y-intercept will be -8 (as stated in the problem.)

Rewrite 5x + y = 11 to the standard form to yield the slope of that line.

So 5x + y = 11 becomes y = -5x + 11 where the slope is -5.

So the equation of the line that you want is then...y = -5x - 8. It satisfies both conditions.
