Learn what you can about the real day to day life of people who do this. Arrange an internship if you can to see firsthand what the reality is. You want to be passionate about something real. Talk to people early in their careers in fd and find out how their lives are and how easy or hard it is to find jobs.
Really evaluate your passion. What I've seen on shows like project runway are people who are constantly thinking about fd, sketching ideas, creating new items. Are you doing this? If you aren't, why not and what does that say?
