Julius Caesar consolidated power by defeating Roman enemies and gaining territory. He was very unpopular to the aristocrats due to some of his policies, which he favored the poor and that made the wealthy Romans. His success at gaining power also made people suspect that his was trying to become the King of Rome, this was something that was looked down on by the political system and public opinion at the time.
