solve 5 (7+p)=10. what is the value of p

First, divide by 5 to get rid of the 5 multiplying the whole left side.
[tex] \frac{5(7+p)=10}{5} = 7+p=2[/tex]
Subtract 7 from each side and simplify.
[tex]p=-5[/tex]
