"nor have we been wanting in attentions to our British brethren" i believe that this is the whole sentence. Wanting in attentions just means drawing attention to yourself, so in the context it means the American colonies didn't want to draw the attention of their "British brethren" it basically means they wanted to be inconspicuous:)
