Despite what seemed like a success, the Treaty of Paris ultimately encouraged dissension between Anglo-American colonists and the British Government because their interests in North America no longer coincided.
The British refused to relinquish several of its forts in the former Northwest Territory, while the Americans continued to confiscate property from citizens that had remained loyal to the British Crown during the war.
