Together, her pets have a total of thirty-eight legs. How many of each kind of pet does she have?

6 hamsters, 3 cats, and 1 bird = 38 legs.

6H + 3C + 1B = 30

H = 4 C = 4 B = 2

6*4 + 3*4 + 1*2 = 38
