I always like to start by removing the absolute value signs. Solving the two equations, -x+4 = 2x-2 we get 6 = 3x, x = 2
If we test ±2 we get the following:
x = 2; | -(2) + 4 | = | 2(2) - 2 |, | 2 | = | 2 |, 2 = 2
Now we test
X = -2; | -(-2) + 4 | = | 2(-2) - 2 |, | 6 | = | -6 |, 6 = 6
Both +2 and -2 work.
