The development of a composite bow gave the army of Sargon a major advantage. The hybrid bow was two or three times the strength of a simple wooden bow, consisting of bone, horn and animal sinew laminated together. It could fire double the distance, and leather armour could be readily penetrated by arrows fired from it.
