Bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes are the three main types of decomposers in the environment. Decomposers consume dead matter by breaking down remaining organic into smaller pieces which can then be placed back into the ecosystem through food chains as nutrients that plants can use to synthesize fresh, new life.
