How a story resolves helps convey its theme because it controls where the story ends. Usually, a story’s “lesson” will be revealed at the end or during its resolution. Throughout the story, a character’s actions reflect ours and the outcome/consequences of those actions reflect the outcomes of ours — therefore allowing us to learn from the story and revealing its “theme”.
