Authors use descriptive language, and character development to influence the story on readers. Doing this helps the reader feel more in depth with the story.

Answer: Authors mainly use figures of speech and figurative language in order to put more emotion into what they are writing. They also will use their own phrases and maybe put in some hidden messages. Though it the last possibility is pretty rare.
