The Reformation or the Protestant Reformation led to a major schism in the Christian community of Europe. The Reformation led to the creation of other groups that called themselves Protestants and followers of Protestantism or a form of Christianity that was different from Catholicism in that it was less hierarchical, more decentralized, and was based on simplicity and individual interpretation of scripture rather than relying on the church for all aspects of Christian doctrine.
