April 19, 1775-September 3, 1783. Though conficts had occured before, the first armed conflict was at Lexington and Concord where rebel managed to repel British forces. The last battle was at Yorktown where British forces were pinned between Continental forces and the French Navy and forced to surrender. The war was formally ended with the Treaty of Paris on the same day.
