Now subtract:

12-9 = 3

Each x value is in hours.

This means he rested for 3 hours.

I think the answer is 2 hours because when I look at the graph he stopped at 10. You would say 12-10 because he started resting at 10 hours and stopped at 12 hours. 12-10=2 hours.
