okay, so first we're gonna take 4 and divide it 8

this will give us the total amount of each individual apple

4 ÷ 8 = 0.5 or 1/2

now take 9 and multiply it by 0.5 or 1/2 to give us the total amount of 9 apples

9 × 0.5 = 4.5

so the cost of nine apples is 4 dollars and 50 cents { we write 50 cause its in money :) }

hope that helps :))
