Step-by-step explanation:

10x-8y = 40 (1)

5x-2y= 40  (2)

multiply (2) by -2 then add to (1) to get rid of x

-10x+4y+10x-8y = 40+ (-80)

-4y = -40

4y = 40

y= 40/4

y = 10

the answer is 10
