The tone is negative due to the lion being aggressive and keeping everyone away. The reason the lion does this is due to its damaged paw, “growling at anyone who would get close enough to examine his damaged claw.” This shows the lions aggressive attitude and immediate distrust in others this is why the tone is mostly negative
