Explanation:

Average, when dealing with velocity, means the average of the initial and final velocity.  So you add them then divide by two, since averaging numbers means adding all that you have then dividing by how many there are.  

So initial is 10 m/s and final looks like 12 or so so you add them to get 22 then divide by 2 and get 11, so average velocity is 11 m/s
