The battle was the culmination of Britain's five-month Gulf Campaign to take New Orleans, West Florida, and possibly Louisiana Territory, which began with the First Battle of Fort Bowyer.
The Battle of Lake Borgne kicked off Britain's New Orleans campaign on December 14, 1814, and numerous skirmishes and artillery duels occurred in the weeks leading up to the final battle.
