how can water and gravity work together to erode soil,sediment, and rock ?

Answer: Gravity makes water move downhill, making the water move. The moving water picks up soil, sediment, and pieces of rock and carries it to different areas, making the soil/sediment/rock get smaller and smaller or more dug out the longer the water is flowing on it.
