In the Tropics of New York by Claude McKay, the fruits in the first stanza were described carefully in order to show a vivid and almost real sensory experience of the picture the poet had in mind. It also gives an impression of the longing of the speaker of such tropical fruits as he was riding in the cargo ship as depicted in the poem – as judged with the meticulous choice of words.
