The central conflict in the story "Two Kinds" by Amy Tan is mother's wishes vs. daughter's will.
The mother wants her daughter to play the piano in order to become a prodigy, whereas the daughter, Jing-mei initially wants to do it, but later on changes her mind, which makes the conflict of the story.
